Since its establishment in 1925, Marusue has been lacquering lacquerware for shrines and temples, and has nurtured two skills: “the art of lacquering” and the art of being a “prayer tool maker”.
This product is the result of combining these two skills under the themes of “prayer” and “light”.
Junichiro Tanizaki, in his “In Praise of Shadows”, wrote about the artistic sensibility of the Japanese people, who were united in their lives with nature and truly knew the essence of elegance, that the beauty of lacquer lies in the glossy and elegant sheen of the lacquer at the moment it receives candlelight in the dark.
The culture of lighting candles and offering prayers is common not only in Japan but also in cultures and religions around the world. The mission of this new brand is to spread the spirit of prayer with the Japanese techniques and traditions possessed by Marusue.
We are releasing a candle stand and an incense stand as our first products. The light from the flame of a Japanese candle has a unique flickering effect that is different from that of an ordinary candle. “Samegawa-Nuri” is one of the finest techniques in the world of sheath lacquering.

This Japanese Candle uses only natural resources from Japan.
Since pure vegetable wood wax (squeezed from the nuts of the Japanese sumac tree) is used, there is little oily smoke and it does not drip easily, so it can be used with peace of mind.
